EDLD 5364 Week One Summary
I learned quite a bit this week, but the one thing that stuck out in my mind is the fact that there are so many different aspects regarding technology. I have grown up with technology, so it is second nature to me, but I forget that others are not "one with" technology like I am. In the "Using Technology with Classroom Instruction that Works" readings, different points were brought up about technology in the classroom that I truly never thought about because of how ingrained technology is into my life. Now a days, students not only have to learn how to use a specific device or program, but they have to know which program is best for their scenario, when to use it, why to use it, and tons more. I forget that technology is a learning process. I need to remember to teach the why of technology rather than just the how. In "Using Technology with Classroom Instruction that Works," they say "applied effectively, technology not only increases student learning, understanding, and achievement but also motivates students to learn, encourages collaborative learning, and helps develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills." This quote needs to be shared with all teachers. Technology is so much more than a tool to enhance education. Technology can be used to help a person grow in so many ways. We must make sure to address all aspects of technology in order to fully take advantage of all that technology can do.
